Training & Development

Training sessions and home matches are held at the Club's ground at the Allington Fields on Sunday mornings between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon and Wednesday evenings from 18:30 to 20:00.  Season runs from beginning of September to end of April.

Wednesday night training - this session is a great opportunity for all to prove themselves and demonstrate their skills. The 22 squad is fluid and this means that players can move in and out of it from week to week, dependent on performance.

Coaching
The coaching team is led by Tim Dunford (Level 2), who is also Chairman of the Junior Section, and he is assisted by a team of Level 1 coaches, one of which is working towards his Level 2.

Our coaching philosophy in the Under 15s is guided by three principles: Safety, fun and the development of the children as players. Winning is important, but it is not the top priority for most of the games that we play.
However, our philosophy does achieve excellent results. The coaches objective is that every player will increase their skill levels and have the opportunity to play matches on a regular basis. Although with the restrictions on squad numbers for cup matches a selection process is implemented using the criteria Ability, Attitude & Attendence.

The game at this level
At this level the boys play full contact rugby with fifteen-a-side on a full sized pitch, 8 man scrums and 25 minutes each way. This is real rugby. Despite our emphasis on safety first, with this level of contact and commitment we require a parent or guardian to remain with the boys during every training session and match.

Matches
As with most of the teams in the junior section of the club, the Under 15s play matches, either home or away, against other clubs approximately every other week.  We take part in festivals and enter the Wiltshire Cup and Bristol Combination Cup.

County Development -  The aim of the development process is to educate and develop the most promising players available within the county so that they can experience the highest quality rugby their potential allows. The information provided here aims to give each player in the age group a clear understanding of what paths they can take in their rugby development.
